At first, this song might sound like a predictable, chilled-out, quasi-trap remix "” the kind that has become really popular these past few years. Then, as it keeps playing, you might notice that this track is way more harmonically interesting than most of its genre. But the most impressive thing is this: "Twerk It" will be three years old on June 21.
This post is a throwback, a tribute to LDFD for managing to create something in 2010 that still sounds fresh and up-to-date. The song is tied together by a murky Fender Rhodes sample that makes the remixed vocals sound downright sinister. Pitched snares and stereo percussion really make this track thump.
In summer 2011, LDFD was a 19-year-old from Dallas named Justin Ledford who had just released his debut EP. Then he dropped off the map almost entirely, sporadically releasing a couple of tracks over the next year. So if you're reading this, Mr. Ledford, please take note: you were ahead of the curve, but now you've given everyone time to catch up. So come back! "Twerk It" is still great, but we want to hear more.
