I first heard Laura Jean Anderson's music back in February and was immediately blown away by the richness of her sound. This Los Angeles-based rock n' roller (by way of Olympia, Washington) is both gentle and ferocious, crooning and roaring with goosebump-inducing soul on everything she puts out.
In March she released her killer debut EP Righteous Girl, which she's recently been promoting through a host of gigs around the L.A. area. I was lucky enough to catch one of them downtown a couple of nights ago at Resident, where she opened for Esmé Patterson with just a mic and guitar (sans her normal backing band). It was a pure and captivating solo set that made me space out like a cliché lovestruck fanboy -- every time I see or hear something new from her, I wonder how much longer she's going to stay one of L.A.'s best kept secrets before she's charming crowds of thousands like she should be.
This track, "Full of X's," is a brand new one that just casually appeared on her SoundCloud in all its sweet riffing glory. It's a more guitar-heavy shift from her earlier work, cruising on a contagious electric energy that feels equally suited for bumping house parties and massive live venues alike. Can't wait to see where she takes her sound from here.
