Don't let the fact that they're fronted by a 16-year-old girl fool you, Kitten demand to be taken seriously with their balls to the wall pop-punk that recalls the likes of
Fever to Tell-era Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Needless to say, I was extremely intrigued when I saw that they were tapped to cover The Smiths' classic, "Panic," for the upcoming tribute album,
Please Please Please: A Tribute to the Smiths.
The truly stellar cover is bookended by a slowed down, spacey tease of another criminally underrated Smiths track, "Death of a Disco Dancer." Even though part of me thinks this clever inclusion is there just because Johnny Marr's original lightning fast 12-string opening riff was a little too much for Kitten to handle, the chosen alternative helps give "Panic" a refreshing and youthful reboot.
