Kendrick motherfucking Lamar. This dude is the musical equivalent of Interstellar. There's no denying he's on another planet. With his new album I'm inclined to argue that he's in another galaxy only accessible via wormhole.
Even a casual listen to his super-new-like-accidentally-released-a-week-early-new album To Pimp a Butterfly reveals that Kendrick fully embraces funk and soul. It's why the Pac and Outkast comparisons are going to be non-stop for a few weeks, especially for anyone absorbed by the first half of the album.
Featured track "Momma" benefits greatly from Knxwledge and Taz Arnold's lofty production and intimate verses from K-Dot. It kicks off a string of heavy-hitting songs, including "Hood Politics," "The Blacker The Berry," and a new, live-ish version of "i."
To Pimp a Butterfly is now available on iTunes and Spotify.
