With his sophomore album almost upon us, Kendrick Lamar has dropped another gem to keep fans' excitement brewing.
"King Kunta" is Lamar's "fuck you" to all those that doubted him during his early years in the rap game. Continuing the theme of black empowerment that appears to be the the major thread of To Pimp A Butterfly, the track uses the story of King Kunta (18th century slave Kunta Kinte, whose life was immortalized in the novel and film Roots) as a metaphor for Lamar overcoming his detractors, as discussed by Genius.
Having heard all three singles thus far, it's fair to say Lamar's hold on the rap game won't be slipping anytime soon. Not only is he lyrically yards ahead of the game, but his beat selection is outstanding.
To Pimp A Butterfly is set for a March 24 release.
