Okay, so this isn't as new as the usual posts, but it's not on Indie Shuffle and it's one of my absolute favorite remixes. Machinedrum's remix of Kelis' "Runnin'" was officially released in April 2014 via Ninja Tune.
In my opinion, Kelis is a criminally underrated artist. Her latest album Food (on which you'll find the original "Runnin'") was one of my favorites of 2014 -- soulful and funky, it shows a vulnerability and husky sentimentality that we hadn't yet seen from the "Milkshake" singer. Some criticized this shift. Not I.
Machinedrum took the powerful, brooding song and flipped it on its head. The jangly beats, future synths, and shuffling rhythm cause the track to shed its gloomy skin. The atmosphere continues to peel away and transform, revealing new and unique layers over and over.
I first came across this remix while listening to Bonobo's BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix -- another solid listen if you've got two hours to spare.
