Together, Kelela and Tink scream "soul sisters" to me. And their new single embodies that to a T.
"Want It" is soulful and sultry at the same time; I would tag this a banging ballad, with which you may find yourself transported to the 90's when Aaliyah reigned supreme.
The single comes as part of a projectcalledSongs from Scratch, an authentic sonic series concocted by Yours Truly and Adidas Originals. The mission: documenting and producing some cataclysmic sound between some seriously talented artists. Other slices of Songs from Scratch include a mind bending collabbetween Nosaj Thing and Chance the Rapper.
To complete the trio of ingenuity, the single is produced by DJ Dahi, the self-proclaimed psychiatric-producer behind my top Drake and Kendrick jams. "Want It" was recordedover a couple of hours in Burbank, CA at Encore Studios.
Don't let Tink's greenness fool you: the Chicago native's flow is formidable and her talent undeniable. As for Kelela, she's been burning tracks in the R&B forest with her hip harmonies and slapdash style.
