I first wrote about Canadian duo Mu back in 2014, following the release of one of their early EPs. That track, “Everything,” is sincere and affecting and has stuck with me for a long time and I still revisit it often.
So when I saw that Mu had covered a track from one of music’s most legendary figures (and a personal icon of mine) I couldn’t resist posting it.
The difficulty with covering a Kate Bush song is that everything she produces sounds so definitely ‘her’ that you have to be pretty damn good to make the listener forget Kate’s version. Very hard thing to do.
Mu succeeds valiantly here with their hypnotic reimagining of the Bush classic. The whistle-like synths, the rolling bass line, and the otherworldly vocals certainly sound like Mu, while paying respect to an icon and preserving the essence of the original.
