A trio already loved by the likes of Nylon, Noisey, and The Line Of Best Fit, today we’re pleased to bring you the premiere of Kafka Tamura’s new single “Lullabies.”
Berlin-born producers Patrick Bongers and Gabriel Häuser enlisted the soulful vocals of Southampton, UK-based singer Emma Dawkins after discovering her on SoundCloud when she was just 15 years old (she’s still only 18). Officially forming as a band in 2012, the hazy “Lullabies” holds a special place in their hearts as the first song they ever worked on together, showcasing the boys’ dreamy pop production to perfection while highlighting Emma’s stark, assured melodies.
Signed to German independent Lichtdicht Records, the three-piece recently toured with labelmate Milky Chance and will release their debut album Nothing To Everyone this Friday, August 14.
Named after the protagonist of the surrealist Japanese novel Kafka On The Shore, a commitment to minimalism is at the core of Kafka Tamura’s aesthetic; the forthcoming LP is an unabashed concept album focused on a pentatonic scale, with all of the songs composed in the same key and based on no more than six chords.
For such a young group to already be armed with this bold artistic vision, there’s no telling where it could take them -- watch this space.
