We previewed a couple of Jordan Bratton's tunes late last year (
"The Grey" and
"Danger 3") in anticipation of his thrilling debut album,
The Grey Area. Released in December, the album can best be described as modern R&B with touches of electronic, classic soul, and indie pop. The album deals with many themes, including heartbreak and addiction, showcasing not only Bratton's talent as a songwriter, but his Frank Ocean-like croon.
While it's hard to choose a favorite track, album opener "Shakespeare (Intro)" is a good place to start, drawing you into Bratton's world, with its 80s synths and bubbling bass line. Then there's Bratton's super soulful vocals, possessing a nostalgic charm that's pure magic.
