Mid-last year, we brought you Melbourne-based singer/songwriter Isaac De Heer's sunny single "Streets of del Mino," with the promise of an EP to come. Now, the well-traveled and skilled musician has decided to go one better and release an album; Summer debuted a couple of weeks back.
A diverse record, it covers a large range of musical disciplines, with lead single "Spaceships" a great example of the album's range. While it's still a guitar-driven track, it possesses a thudding, hip-hop influenced beat, which constructs a rich, intriguing soundscape. This is exaggerated even further by De Heer's interesting vocal arrangements, with rambling spoken word making way for enthused choruses -- there's even sections of tribal chanting fused in!
My description probably doesn't do "Spaceships" justice. Simply put, it's just a really well-done pop song.
Summer is out now. Give the whole, interesting thing a listen on Bandcamp.
