Why do we like this?
While I love the Australian electronic scene, there's so much going on at the moment it's hard to find truly unique acts. So, when I do come across artists who choose a slightly different approach, I'm usually pretty excited. As I alluded to in my review of his previous single "Heart Mind," Sydney producer Hubert Clarke Jr. is the perfect example of someone fitting this mold -- and thankfully, he's creating some incredible music, and is turning out to be pretty prolific!
After dropping his debut EP, Filtered Juice, at the end of last year, he's already back with a brand new six-track release. Heart/Mind is a standout for people who like their electronic music on the experimental side. The feature track "Leather" (and the rest of the EP) sticks with a style that we've enjoyed on previous releases, focusing on eclectic loops and pulsing, hypnotic beats. There's a real tribal undertone to the rhythms and samples used which will appeal to fans of artists like Ras_G and Madlib.
