Why do we like this?
Oakland-based FRIENDZONE's new album, DX, has finally dropped. Tobias covered the first single - POLY - back in late July while I was all nostalgic for a wicked Former Ghosts remix of "Chin Up" back in Dec 2012.
FRIENDZONE is James Laurence and Dylan Reznick. This is their latest full-length since Collections 1, heavy on the claps at times. As they described it on Facebook, it's their "most ambitious project to date, two gruelling years in the making". Sort of in-between ambient and "booty juke" but tough to classify. I'm all about the R&B-laced "LUV U MORE THAN ANYTHING", but this loose beat track is great too. Loving the delicate vocals against that synth. Other winners include the casio-sounding ALL MY LIFE+ and the glitchy YR TOUCH YR BLISS. The sound off the latter sounds super familiar although if it's a sample I can't place it. Anyone spot it? Let us know in the comments.
