The word piano comes from the Italian work pianoforte, quite simply meaning instrument. Since the black and white 88 keys comprise one of the world's most recognizable instruments, its namesake derivation is more than appropriate.
With the rising popularity of electronic music and DJing, traditional instruments are giving way to MIDI players, Serato boxes, and Kaos pads; so, I felt it appropriate in this month of thanks that we pay homage to one of the most beautiful and celebrated instruments in history.
