Oh, Electric Zoo. First off, let me say that I have not seen so much neon in all my life, not to mention how many girls had on booty shorts, with their 14-year-old asses hanging out. I had no clue I was going to be seeing so much flesh at the zoo! I made a mental note not to let my future daughter out of the house without a thorough bag search.
This past weekend, Randall's Island hosted 85,000 sweaty, jumping, bass-seeking electronic music lovers and what a fantastic host it was. With such hugh names as
John Digweed (whom I had the pleasure to interview),
Armin van Buuren, and
Tiësto, the festival was not missing any beats.
They filled up their lineup with newer artist as well. There was explosive and deliciously erratic dupstep, seamless progressive trance and hard bass seeping out of every tent. Plus,
Made Event did a fabulously better job than last year with the stage set ups. Last year, you left there covered in dust (I had dust boogers and a much darker pigment to my skin). This year, they laid down plastic flooring and no dust clouds rose as dancers pounded every inch of the floors.
I left every day with music in my ears and my feet still skipping as I followed the masses, the glitter/neon wearing masses, into the subway home.
Here's a list of the best emerging DJs I heard at the festival. Enjoy!
