Why do we like this?
DTMD is the youth movement within DMV hip hop. East Coast people will get the reference, but for the out-of-towners, DMV stands for the areas of DC, Maryland, and Virginia, a hip-hop scene that has been getting attention in the past few years through the works of Oddisee, Diamond District, Kev Brown, and many others.

DTMD is Dunc on the beats and Toine on the mic, and they just released their debut album Makin Dollas. Now, it might seem odd that a duo born in the 90s is referencing EPMD in both name and title, a group that started making music before they were born. Well, that just goes to show you where these kids have their heart and it shows in the music.

Dunc's rich production serves as an appropriate backdrop for Toine's technically astute rhymes and bright delivery. The song "95 Live" is a perfect example, incorporating some Sadat X scratches for good measure, they also bring along fellow DMV MC Quartermaine to supply some guest bars. Though these cats are not breaking new ground, they know what sound they are going for and are pretty successful at achieving it. Any fan of early 90s boom-bap will immediately start nodding to this.
