Why do we like this?
Discodeine (Pentile and Pilooski) is back with the follow-up to their critically acclaimed self-titled debut album. The first single off their new album Swimmer is "Aydin," an dark 80s electro-pop body-mover full of Middle Eastern funk and dropout vibes, clearly influenced by the darker side of the moon. It epitomizes East meeting West.
Their first album featured vocals from Jarvis Cocker on "Synchronize" and Matia Aguayo back in 2011, so it's no surprise that they brought along Kevin Parker (of Tame Impala) to deliver some celestial vocals on this track.
"Aydin" features some pulsating plucks on a fat bassline and some orchestral strings that complement the ghoulish accents of Parker's filtered vocals longing in the background. It's a real fun track that manages to maintain its coolness in light of its pop packaging. Tune in, drop out, and see for yourself.
