New Zealand is renowned for lots of things. Lord of the Rings, sheep, rugby, and amusing accents are all well known Kiwi traits. Electro music however, is a new trend for the land of the long white cloud. Acts like Ladyhawke and the Naked and Famous have set the tone with some recent international success. Now, Computers Want Me Dead, a duo out of Auckland, are set to follow in their footsteps with the recent release of their self-titled EP.
Forming in 2009, their first single "We Walk in Circles" was a victory for electro pop, with the two young men working energetically to perfect their craft over the subsequent two years. Sam Harvey and Damien Daniels have melded musicianship, production proficiency, and pure rhythm to superior effect.
The EP, a short but sweet four tracks (plus three bonus remixes!) left me yearning for more; I'm hoping that this is the first of many releases for the partnership. The aforementioned "We Walk in Circles" is catchy beyond belief, dripping in funky electronics and silky bass. Recently released single "Letters and Numbers" continues along a similar path and coupled with an awesome film clip will no doubt perform wonders. "In Your Blood" and "Fell Down Every Flight" are head-banging masterpieces which you can't help but bop to, even if it's just in your PJs at home (don't judge me).
These two young men have a bright future in front of them despite the influx of electronic music coming out of Australia. Promoting Australian music to the world is my passion, but I was more than willing to bend the rules slightly on this occasion.
