The beauty of music is its ability to grab and capture your attention no matter where you are or what you're doing. This track is a perfect example.
I first heard Cody Copeland in the strangest of places... in one my favorite burrito shops in San Francisco. Yes, a burrito shop. Above loud conversation and far too much food, Copeland's voice and delivery captivated my attention quite heavily. After hearing a few songs from his album, Two States, I had to ask who was playing over the shop's tiny speaker system. I was so grateful to get his name, hear more from him, and find out he's based just across the bay in Berkeley.
While writing this album, Copeland lived in two very unique places; urban Chicago and the remote Gulf of Mexico. "Youth II," aside from having an incredibly groovy melody, is deeply emotional. I wasn't expecting this song to be so hard hitting and resonant. It's hard to pay close attention in a loud taco shop!
The guitar is so slick and the bass line is so heavy, I simply didn't expect the beauty of the lyrics. Anyone who has been through a tough break-up can relate to this one. Give this guy a listen, this track is pure bliss and his SoundCloud is relatively untapped with a ton of great songs.
