When I lived in San Diego during college, I was introduced to a real, living and breathing punk and hardcore culture. I don't come from that world, but it was amazing to witness. The sense of community was very prominent. I had never been around music that was so aggressive and inclusive at once. In that context, I learned to appreciate the music much more than I had before.
When the homie PBDY hit me about his new label, TAR, and the idea of featuring one of his acts on here, I was pleasantly surprised to get a chance to reminisce over those SD days. To make the serendipitous cypher complete, Champ is a garage punk band from San Diego, California. The fellas in the group came together after revisiting the records that made them punk fans. They categorize the music as nostalgic but set in the present, Punk music with an ear for production.
Joel Williams, the band's frontman, has this to say about today's track, "Piss":
"It's a song about being tired of everyone and everything. Its about people calling you stupid or crazy for saying what you think, and expecting you to listen to them. Its about losing control. Its about breaking my neck throwing myself around on stage."
