The exodus of more and more respectable grown-ups has become a token of Seattle's Capitol Hill Block Party weekend, leaving the notorious Pike-Pine corridor to the throngs of its most music-obsessed friends and neighbors (many of whom have some personal connection to the hundred-plus bands playing, staying truly representative of the neighborhood).
This year's headliners include Major Lazer, Diplo, Youth Lagoon, Twin Shadow, Grimes, Aesop Rock, Phantogram, Father John Misty and Neko Case. Of course, the short list depends on whom you ask. With political wrath coming down on the Block Party, this could be the last hurrah after an increasingly epic 16 years.
Wear your sun block, charge your phone, and bear in mind the best memories are the ones you remember. Here, I present a 10-track listening guide to Capitol Hill Block Party 2012... just please don't call it a festival!
