Why do we like this?
Chicago's A Lull is one of those bands that almost defies description. Their songs bend and weave into so many genres, from industrial rock that to damn near conventional indie pop, that it's hard to quite put your finger on them.
All of A Lull's five members have played the drums at one point in their careers, and it shows. Their debut LP, Confetti, if filled with enough intricate, skillfully layers percussion sounds to make your head spin.
On their attempt at this often-covered Springsteen classic, they bring that beat-heavy attitude with them. There's decidedly much more going on sound-wise within this cover than in the original, but A Lull still maintain the uneasy iciness that makes the original so stirring. The sparse, yet powerful drumming eventually fades out and gives way to the spacey howls of lead singer, Nigel Evan Dennis. The Boss would be proud.
