I'm really tempted to go to Iceland in November for the Airwaves Festival, which features mostly unknown (to me, anyways) Icelandic and European indie bands, as well as the more popular Son Lux.
As I was perusing the artists, I discovered bird, whose new single is apparently getting some love in Iceland but has yet to break much ground in the rest of the world. This is surprising because it's a stellar track that shows off some pretty impressive production and songwriting skills; I think it draws fair comparisons to FYFE. If you're going to Airwaves, don't miss this guy's set, and if you're not, make sure to bug him to release some more tunes like this one!
From his website:
"Bird comes from Reykjavik, Iceland, and the person responsible for all the writing, playing, singing and mixing, is Jón Valur Gudmundsson. The 26-year old has been very active in the Icelandic music scene over the last ten years, which seem like a long time given his age. Jon Valur was a drummer in Who Knew, as well as with Ásgeir and Króna. He’s also worked as a sound-engineer for the Icelandic grand-masters of reggae, hjálmar, over the last few years."
