Why do we like this?
With an irresistible beat and a smoothness of voice akin to that of crooner Mayer Hawthorne, this electronic anthem from Londoner James Mathé, aka Barbarossa, is a far cry from his acoustic roots.
Mathé released his debut album Chemical Campfires back in 2008, following successful stints in the backing bands of both Johnny Flynn and Jose Gonzalez. Yet despite his love of the acoustic scene, it seems he's since undergone somewhat of a reinvention with the birth of his urban-inflected brand of electronic gorgeousness.
"Turbine," taken from Mathé's August release Bloodlines, is an infectious testament to his versatility. I can't wait to hear what's next.
