Artefact is an Australian twosome made up of Jim and Chrissy Flanagan, who, despite the shared last name, are not actually related. They create undulating and cinematic music that seeps into your psyche.
Using thoughtful sound design to establish a listening environment, "Remember To Bleed" wavers back and forth between your headphones, lifts your body from the ground and drenches your brain in syrupy sounds.
The track has the lingering production of Radiohead and instrumentation akin to Broken Bells with a very subtle guitar arpeggio that reminds me of Pink Floyd. An unique combination of facets that dissolve seamlessly into one another.
The cinematic quality of Artefact's music lends itself well to video. It's no surprise, then, to hear that they've received international recognition for their award-winning music videos.
The 3D video for their debut single "What I Want" was created in coordination with animators from the US, Italy, and Moldova, winning the Best Animation award at the LA Independent Film Festival. It was followed by the March 2016 release of their follow up single and video "Brunfelsia."
Not only are the animation and the soundtrack spectacular, but the videos aim to create a narrative with each successive single. The artistry and thoughtfulness of this audio-visual project make Artefact ones to watch.
